"Safe Rigging: Every time!"

Picture #1 shows the angle of two short, two-legged chains being used to lift a 980G loader cab. When lifted - the pull on the hook tip caused the lifting ring near the latch to slip up under the latch and off the hook, causing the cab to swing down towards the floor. Everyone was in the right "position" so nobody got hurt.

Picture 2 shows a better arrangement – using a shackle to ensure no chain slippage, no matter how severe the angle of your two-legged slings. (If your chain angle is too severe you might want to re-think your rigging.)

Better still – use a four-legged chain with adjustable grab hooks to properly balance your load.

Remember – get the information you need to RECOGNIZE potential hazards; EVALUATE to determine how to protect yourself; then take the initiative to CONTROL the situation in your favor.

One way to control the situation is to ask for a "second opinion" from your Supervisor or other experienced fellow employee – if your safety is in doubt.

Don't fill in the phrase "________________ was a good guy and he should have known better, but..." – With YOUR Name!
